Hatteras began more than 55 years ago, when founder Willis Slane dreamed of a fishing boat that could withstand the strong waves off Cape Hatteras so that he could indulge in his favorite activity: marlin fishing. From that vision came the 41-foot Knit Wits, the first fiberglass yacht over 40 feet in the world. Since then, Hatteras has been building luxurious yachts that combine good design, innovation, and excellent craftsmanship.

Hatteras focuses on innovative ways to reduce noise and vibration. It pioneered the use of multi-bladed hybrid propellers and their patented air induction system. Meanwhile, the use of convex and modified-V hulls and a novel deep tunnel design ensures that clients will always have a comfortable ride.

Hatteras works closely with a client to build a yacht that reflects the client’s taste and lifestyle. In the initial consultation, the client can specify his desired features, such as the amenities, integrated technology, and layout. A team will then be assigned to the client, including a designer who will create an interior plan that matches the client’s vision — from the big items, such as cabinets and furniture, to the custom details, such as shower design and wall coverings. After purchasing a yacht, the client can expect a multi-day orientation period and can even opt to take a Hatteras team along for the maiden voyage.

The Hatteras fleet currently consists of two models in the Express series, four in the Motor Yachts series, and three models of sportfishing convertibles. Each boat has a 10-Year Structural Warranty and a 2-Year Warranty on all systems.
